Nightmares are terrific and frightening dreams from which the sufferer wakes in a state of fear or agitation. Nightmares (dream anxiety disorder) occur during REM (rapid eye movements).
They are characterized by fearful dreams occurring most commonly in the last one- third of night sleep. The person wakes up very frightened and remembers the dream vividly.
This is in contrast to night terrors which occur early in the night, are a stage 4 NREM disorder, and are characterized by complete amnesia. In both conditions, the observer finds the person frightened.
Most normal people have experienced such phenomenon.
Aconite: nightmares with anxiety, restlessness and feverishness; palpitation and rush of blood to blood.
Kali Bromatum: night terrors of children; scream in sleep and want to cling to parents or nurse.
Nux Vomica: awakes in fright from least noise; nightmares in people of sedentary habits.
Pulsatilla: sleeplessness in first part of night; nightmares after taking rich, fatty food; cries and moans in sleep.
Sulphur: for recurring attacks.
